My 12 year old Red Nose
My 12 year old Red Nose has recently started eating leather belts. She doesn't have a history of chewing and is usually very picky about her food (she will not eat anything thats not cut up for her first) She is spoiled. I know. However, could this be a sign of something serious.
whining while hiking
So I just took my almost 2 year old labradoodle on his first hike. He is very sociable, playful, friendly, etc. I have always been very regular with walks twice a day and playtime at the park, etc. He's a very happy puppy. However, he still pulls when other dogs or other people walk by. So I decided to get him a backpack for our hike because I heard this give them something to focus on while on hikes to help with pulling, etc. It was not heavy, I put a water bottle in each pouch and some treats. He seemed fine walking around with it. But on the hike, he whined consistently. We were with a friend and her dog and it was obvious the backpack was not too heavy because my dog had no problem trying to keep up but whined the entire hike. Although happy (major tailwagging), people stopping to take his picture and petting him, he was obviously very happy. So why was he so whiny?
Mixed Breed Hound Agressive
We adopted a mixed breed hound dog, a female, at 7 weeks old from a kill shelter. She is now 1 year old. She is spayed and micro-chipped and well taken care of. She weights 54 pounds. She loves our mixed breed male dog, almost 3 years old. She even tolerates our cat. She wants to hunt for sure. We have almost 1&1/2 acres fenced in to keep her in. She lives inside but has an electronic doggie door to come and go as she pleases. We have never seen her aggressive except when a ground hog got inside the fence and that baby lasted about 30 seconds. She killed it before I could get to it. Then today, our neighbor was walking his very docile part pit bull female close to our driveway. He came over to say hi and my hound went wild. She wanted to kill that neighbors dog and the dog was being very friendly. It shocked my neighbor and me. I have cried all evening. Now, I am afraid she will hurt my other dog, even though they love each other dearly. I can't trust her. I take her to the vet tomorrow for immunizations and a physical. But I want to talk to the doctor first to see why my hound, Grace, went crazy on that female dog, to kill. My neighbors part pit dog has also been spayed and is 8 years old. Why did my hound dog all of a sudden turn aggressive? What can I do? Thank you!

Stroke or not?
Our beautiful 13 year old female long haired german shephard "Mafia", just gave us a fright of our life. Immediately I assumed she had a stroke.....choking back the tears I swiftly rang the Vet who was asking for her to be brought in for treatment. I followed my gut and thought moving her and taking her to THAT place could trigger her in a negative path. I assured the vet I would keep a close eye on her, keep her quiet and warm in her own environment and allow her to be comfortable. I placed her food and water nearby and left her to rest for 1/2 hour. Meanwhile I am dreading the next check up, thinking it would be an unpleasant find. With torch in hand, I went outside to check where I last placed her...no where to be found. The tears welling again, I continued my search, under the vehicles, under the house, in her kennel, in the shed...with my heart swelling I hear gentle footsteps behind me, spotting a wagging tail. Our girl came back, as she was only a few hours prior. I called my husband who was inside at the time heartbroken expecting the worse, he did not know what to expect. There she was, head down in her food bowl, no eye's rolling, no unsteadyness, no panting...the joy of seeing her healthy again...no words can express. My prayers were answered, our girl is back!!! :)
