Problem after visit with vet
Both cats saw our Mobile vet friday for annual exam and shots. Mickey a short hair grey male tabby cat of 3 yr walked into the cat carrier with no problem. As soon as the door closed he went nuts. Vet sprayed him with some thing that was suppose to help him calm down. It did not.
Back into the house we let him go in the bedroom where his safe spot is. Since then when he spots his house mate of three yrs he starts hissing, growl, hair goes up and he swats at Sasha ( black/tan short hair female) and then runs. She at frist tryed to touch noises but now gos into attack mode. We have a full ongoing war. and they are fully clawed.
We have now set up space just for Mickey in the bedroom/bath and keeping the door close ... feeding etc by himself.... any suggests on how to go forward would be very welcome ... this is very stress full on everyone in the house...
He has all ways ran and hid when someone came to the door. But with everyone in the house specialy his with his playmate Sasha he has been loving, playful no other problems ....
What message is my cat giving me?
Hi - I'm new and hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have three cats - 2 are siblings, a male and a female, about 5 yrs. old, the other is a Siamese, about 12. All three are active and in good health. One of them, probably one of the younger cats, has been defecating and urinating just outside the litter boxes for about a month, usually in the same spot. We have three litter boxes in the basement and they are easily reached. I eliminated the Siamese being the culprit by isolating him for a couple of days. This behavior has never happened before, and, as far as I know, nothing has changed in our environment or situation.
i have a question,
is it normal for a cat to shy away from opening doors even if they are silent, or run from their owner? i've had my cat 8 yearss now, and has never done this before. could it be rusult of her age(8yrs)? she also runs from end to end in my yard not chasing anytihng, do they do this as intinct or what? i just want to make sure everything is okay with her and that her behavior be either normal or not. thnx.
hind leg weakness
My cat (20 years old) has been having problems with her right hind leg for a while (arthritis). Suddenly, a couple of days ago, she couldn't stand up or walk. Both of her hind legs were too weak to support her. My usual vet says arthitis has encased her spinal cord. I want to try acupuncture before I even consider the FINAL SOLUTION. I cry when she tries to tell me what she wants. I always carry her to the litter box first, then try to give her water, then try food. Her appetite is good - she is very alert- but I don't know how long we can go on with a 24/7 watch on her.
I guess, I don't know what I am asking except for others who have gone thru this. I cannot bring myself to to make that final decision.
I have a cat thats 18 years old. She has hypothyroidism and is on medication for that. I have begun to wonder if she is becoming senile. She always used her litter box and has always been a good cat. In about the past year she has begun to mainly sleep. When she has the urge to go to the bathroom..she will 'go' wherever she happens to be. She has literally stood up from the spot where she was sleeping.near her food dish, squatted and urinated and/or pooped. Not only that..she has been known to do this in other strange places. She has gotten on the dinner table and urinated. She has came running into my room and jumped staright up onto my bed and squatted and urinated. She has urinated in the dogs food dish. pooped in the bathtub, just anytime the urge hits her..she goes.. any place, anytime, anywhere. This is not the beloved cat we once knew. We are at our wits end on what to do. We don't have the money for alot of tests. When we took her to the vet he said to be 18 years old she looked very healthy, though she only weighs about 5 pounds..she used to be very fat. We have tried taking her to her box in the bathroom after meals and in between. She will use the box....so she knows what its for and where its at. She occassionally goes to her box on her own. is there anyone out there dealing with a situation like this? All answers appreciated.
When Cats Attack
My friend told me about her cat suddenly attacking people and I was wondering if that happened to anyone else. She said she would just be petting her cat, the cat would all sweet like she liked being pet, but then out of no where she would just turn and attack her. I have never heard of this happening before, has anyone else?
Our Cat Has Lost Her Mind, Please Help...
Hello,My wife and I just brought home a new kitten yesterday and our established cat (Shadow) immediately became very aggressive towards the two of us. Shadow is a Maine Coon and weighs about fifteen pounds, so she's a pretty large cat. We live in a nice big clean home, so there's much room for everyone and the little kitten even has her own room. The only contact they've had is when we had Shadow check out the kitten, while the kitten was inside of a carrier. We've given Shadow her space, but she's literally lunged on numerous occasions at both me and my wife, trying to attack us. We live in Portland, Oregon and a couple of years ago we went through a big snow storm for about a week and this is when Shadow (about five to six months old at the time) came to our door and we believed she was a feral cat and the Multnomah County Animal Shelter also thought there was a good chance? We had taken her to the shelter after she had road out the storm in our bathroom for a few days, hoping her family would come looking, but no one ever did and we had told the shelter not to put her down, we would take her if it ever came to that. Shadow has always been an aggressive cat and she'll occasionally show her dominance towards my wife, but she's never tried to actually harm us like what we've seen over the last twenty-four hours. I'm 6'3 and 245 lbs. and I'm even scared of her now, she just tried to attack my wife and then she turned and ran at me (while hissing and growling), but luckily she proceeded to slip on the hard wood floors and passed me without incident. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, we truly feel like prisoners in our own home and this just isn't fair to anyone involved, Thank You! Scott & Alice.
My cat has a throw up problem. Not hairballs. Liquid and food. I'm getting quite tired of cleaning this up and I am considering getting rid of the cat. This occurs maybe once a month.
Short of that, what could be causing this ?
Male 2 year old cat.
How much is your cats life worth?
A friend of mine has a cat that was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure. This disease is terrible and can eventually kill a cat. There are treatment options, but they all mainly help to manage the cat's remaining years, and do not cure or undo the damage caused by the disease. There is however a new operation where the cat's can receive healthy new kidneys through a transplant procedure. They say its about 80% effective, meaning the cat is all better, but its costs $5,000.00. How much would people be willing to pay to save their cats life?
Help me with choosing a breed
Okay. I would love to get a cat. I have a rather small apartment, but hopefully I'd be moving out in a year or two. I spent the last few days trying to determine which cat breed would be the best choice, and I am even more confused than before. I have always had cats, but they were ordinary cats picked up from containers, cleaned and fed. But now I'd like to have a breed.So. I'm looking for the love of my life. Long-semi long hair, intelligent, lap cat. Someone who can listen to me while I study aloud all day long, meow here and there agreeing with me, and demanding attention. He would be alone about 3-5 hours every day. Sometimes maybe 7. He wouldn't be allowed outside, since sadly, there is no outside here. He would get all the love I have.At one point I loved the idea of getting a Norwegian forest cat, but then I realized how huge they can get, and decided to hold that thought for a while. On my chosen list are also: Turkish Angora and Van, Korat, Birman, Ragdoll, Russian Blue and Chartreux. Yes, I understand that not all of them have the length of hair I'd prefer, and some of them don't score the highest on intelligence. What do you think would be the best option? Maybe another breed I didn't take under consideration? Thank you a lot.
